Vanessa Hudgens: Bare Movie Role Ahead?

So soon after the High School Musical franchise ended for her, is Vanessa Hudgens already desperate for work?

Without major prompting, the actress told E! Online this week that she'd gladly get naked in a future film.

"I will show nudity in a film when the time is right," Vanessa said. "Right now, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it, but like I said, when the time's right, if it's an amazing movie that I'm really passionate about and that's what it calls for, then we'll see."

The Hudgie Bear

Might Hudgens be aiming for retribution against Zac Efron, following his risqué photo shoot in Interview magazine in March?

After all, it's not like Hudgens needs to make any birthday suit promises in order to land a role.

This summer, she begins shooting a pair of movies: Beastly, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast; and Sucker Punch!, based on a girl that is sent to a mental institution by her stepfather.

Vanessa's history of nude photos might actually hurt her bare box office appeal. Why shell out $10 for a movie ticket when someone can surf the Web for free?

Jessica Biel: my "hotness" is a problem

For Jessica Biel, her body and good looks are the main culprit why she doesn't always get the plum roles in Hollywood films. Despite her performance in The Illusionist that earned her decent reviews, good roles are still not hers for the picking, so she tells Allure magazine. She envies the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, who can do so.

Biel, whose recent film -- Powder Blue -- went straight to DVD, is better known for her high-profile dates than her acting portfolio. She is currently dating Justin Timberlake, and has been linked to Derek Jeter and Chris Evans in the past.

Good roles, good roles. Aren’t those given to good actresses? Just asking...

Tin "Cannes" Alley?

Are Cannes' glory days of chic, glamour and sophistication truly gone? Apparently so. The beaches of Cannes are littered with crass personalities with hardly an ounce of Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn or Bette Davis in their styles. Most people congregate to Cannes during the festival that has no business being in the event. They are party-goers who love the gregarious scene during festival season, and in no way connected to the film industry, if at all.

Legitimate and long-time Cannes attendees mourn the 60s when the crowd is "more classy". Hollywood A-listers quickly abandon Cannes after doing their required premier and party duties, while those few who are left, like Jim Carrey and Brad Pitt, hide in their rooms. It's all downhill after that, with the likes of Paris Hilton hosting a yearly party in Cannes -- for fun, what else?

Brangelina Lovefest in BreakupVille?

Are critics reading too much body language from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at the Cannes Film Festival? The tattle at the Cannes party scene is that there appears to be awkwardness and distractedness in the actions and gestures of both Brad and Angie, despite putting up a show of togetherness. The Sun called in body language expert Robert Phipps and he says he is "convinced they are not happy."

Blame it on the heat of the Cannes sun, but this recent appearance is indeed a far cry from last year, where the pair attended the French film festival to promote Angie's film Changeling, and where they kissed constantly and Angie was all smiles and praises for Brad.

Possible reasons for the lukewarm display this year? Work, differences in personality, opinions and intelligence, and... Jennifer Aniston?

'Angels and Demons' actor: Brown's a "terribly bad writer"

He joins the cast of "Angels and Demons", but he's no fan of its author, Dan Brown. Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard, who plays the head of the Pope's Swiss Guard in the film, says he accepted his role in the film only after reading the script by director Ron Howard. Skarsgard cheekily said, "I think Dan Brown is a terribly bad writer, but he has cliffhangers after every chapter which makes you continue reading".

Oh, he also thinks "Angels and Demons" is better than the first film, "The Da Vinci Code". Is it because he's in it? Tom Hanks, by the way, reprises his lead role as Harvard professor Robert Langdon.

BigStrongBrute, Ambitious Lovers @ Black Star (15.05.09)

Last Friday's show at Black Star Coffee in West End was perhaps the fourth time I'd been to the venue since it started featuring bands at the start of the year. It's a cool little cafe just near the Boundary St / Vulture St intersection, just off the main drag on the cusp of suburbia. All of the gigs I've attended at Black Star so far have been great fun, as there's something really enjoyable about sitting having a chat with some friends and drinking hot coffee / chocolate instead being in a hot, loud club drinking a beer. The layout of the cafe means that the band sets up essentially in the middle of the audience, providing an extremely intimate environment for musical performance.

Ambitious Lovers were the first band to play on this particular Friday night. Lead Lover Joel Saunders is no stranger to Black Star, having played the venue previously and also being the curator of the regular 'Foot Foot Foot' shows that take place there every few weeks. For this night he was joined by his two regular female vocals & percussion companions, Kel and Elise. The band has been playing as a three-piece for almost a year now, and it's helped them to become a more solid band. While Ambitious Lovers have been (and will most likely always be) a ramshackle act both live and on record, having a third member seems to have made the band somewhat tighter - no longer do most songs have a section where the different musicians seem to be completely out of sync with each other. They're still wonderfully shambolic, but no longer in a way that gets in the way of their, quite frankly, astoundingly beautiful songs.

Many people don't attempt to take Ambitious Lovers at more than face value. They hear Joel's cracked vocals and distorted ukulele, they see the percussion kit made from milk crates and bottle caps and fly swatters, they watch the band descending into a noisy freakout at the end of a beautiful outsider-folk song. They make up their minds that the musicians are being 'difficult' and that this is music that is too amateur to be worth trying to dissect. They never take the effort to hear the actual songs underneath the facade of 'experimentalism'. I don't think the band care in the slightest, but it's still a damn shame because there's actually very little to Ambitious Lovers that is all that difficult to enjoy. So many of their songs are wonderfully melodic and heartbreaking in their vulnerability. Their sets contain more emotion than any other Brisbane band I can think of.

BigStrongBrute haven't been a regular fixture on the Brisbane live scene for a while now, with their only semi-recent appearance being their support slot for Mt Eerie in October last year. Back then they showed off their rusted take on folk and Americana with a full 'rock' band lineup. On this particular night, however, they brought things right back, with the band featuring Paul Donoughue on vocals and guitar (since BigStrongBrute is essentially his solo act) plus a flautist and trumpet player. I found it to be the most effective lineup of the band I'd seen, allowing Paul to strip the songs down to their bare essentials while still allowing them to swell up when necessary. All of the BigStrongBrute shows I've seen in the last few years have engendered a great degree of goodwill towards the band - they just seem to be that sort of act, the sort where their enthusiasm for playing is easily transferred to the audience. This particular show had something more to it than that though, there was a palpable sense of sorrow mixed in with the usual celebratory feelings. Maybe it was just the affect of having the brass and wind instruments with no pounding percussion to provide a counterpoint. Whatever the reason, despite being only six songs long, it was one of the most beautiful sets I've seen in recent times. There were quite a few songs that I didn't recognise (although there were still some old favourites such as 'Everything All At Once') so hopefully this bodes well for an upcoming release from the band.

Miley's "goofy" Kodak Moment and a Law Suit

When you're a famous teenager, a simple photo of you and your friends slanting your eyes can be considered a "racial insult" and could earn you a class suit. How's that again? As kooky as it sounds, Hannah Montana pop-princess Miley Cyrus was actually sued by Lucie Kim for insulting the Asian-Pacific Islander population in L.A. County, simply because she gestured THE gesture. Kim contested in her suit that Miley Cyrus should pay $4,000 for each Asian-Pacific Islander person that Cyrus inflicted with civil rights damages, totaling $4 billion if you counted the size of the ethnic mix of Asian and Asian-American people in the region.

Miley's legal team fired back with a testy challenge citing "equal access to public accommodations" and basically saying Cyrus did not discriminate and that Kim doesn't deserve payment for being offended.

LiLo's House - Ransacked or Just Messy?

Apparently, not keeping a clean house is detrimental when you're burglarized in Hollywood. That's what happened to Lindsay Lohan when police responded last Tuesday to a security alarm that was triggered at Lohan's home. When police came over to investigate, they thought at first it was ransacked, then after poking around they decided it was just plain messy.

But recent developments say Lohan's house was attempted for burglary, after all. This after a security video caught two unidentified men attempting to break into LiLo's L.A. home, with a four-door gray station wagon parked in front of the house just before 3 p.m. So the security alarm was triggered alright, by these two men... or by a rat perhaps?

Penelope Cruz Professional Photo Session for Mango Spring/Summer 2009

Penelope Cruz looks amazing and beautiful in her Mango Spring/Summer Campaign 2009 photo shoot, photographed by Mert and Marcus. The Mango Spring / Summer 2009 collection allows you to have your pick of several little black dresses and dainty, ruffled tops, coupled with more tailored, menswear-inspired pieces like trenches.

Penelope Cruz with her big brown eyes is just the perfect to show off such classy, timeless pieces as these. The limited collection of the star for the Spring / Summer ’09 Mango line is centered on “Japanese influenced, kimono styles and blazer-trouser combos,” as several media outlets report. However, the “piece de resistance” is the all too important little black dress, as the new
shots for the fourth Cruz campaign also show.
